No cook, Pumpkin Pie Playdough

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Playdough never fails to bring a smile to kids of all ages. Not only is it entertaining, but it also builds fine motor skills and provides great sensory experience. October is almost here and it seemed like the perfect time to make some pumpkin pie spice playdough.

My toddler loved helping mix the dry ingredients and seeing it come to life (I helped with the hot water part).

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 2 Tablespoons cream of tartar

  • 1 cup of boiling water

  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil (or coconut oil)

  • Yellow and red food coloring

  • 1 Tablespoon Pumpkin pie seasoning

    • Or make your own with 1/2 tsp each of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves

Directions:

  1. Measure, pour, and mix dry ingredients in large mixing bowl

  2. Measure out 1 cup boiling water, add vegetable oil and food coloring (Careful with children during this step)

  3. Combine wet & dry ingredients and mix mix mix

  4. Once temperature has cooled down to touch, take it out of bowl and knead well

  5. Prepare for endless entertainment :)

Extend the fun:

Add twigs, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, felt leaves, etc. to build your own pumpkins.

Talk about what happens when you mix red & yellow. Did you notice anything when the oil was mixed with the water& food coloring?
