Paint a Mask

Trunk or Treat Special! Paint one of the 3 woodland creatures: Fox, Bear, or Raccoon

First off, thank you for stopping by our Trunk or Treat booth this 2023 year! We hope your kiddos had a Happy Halloween!

Now who could resist making a cute woodland mask? I know we were thrilled to draw them up and loved making this adorable craft available for you to do at home!

Make a Woodland Mask

What you need:

  • Woodland Creature Packet including:

  • Mask template (fox, bear, or raccoon)

  • Paint

  • Paint brush

  • **Not included: Scissors

OPTIONAL:

  • Sharpie/markers

  • Glue

  • Embellishments (like stickers, leaves, glitter, etc.)

Directions:

  1. Open your packet of materials, and if you have really little ones, set up some newspaper or plastic under your mask to contain the paint mess. (I often use a garbage bag and have my daughter wear her painting smock).

  2. Use your scissors to cut out the eye holes and around the ears and head.

  3. Open the paint and start painting the mask as desired. (My 2.5 year old went for a marbled look)

  4. NOTE ON RACCOON: The best way to paint this one is to first paint around the eyes black. Then, mix the black and white together for various shades of grey for the rest of your painted mask.

  5. Allow your painted mask to dry (could be 1 to 2 hours, depending on how thick the paint went on)

  6. Optional: include some embellishments on top, like draw designs on top of the paint with marker, glue on a leaf crown, put on stickers or glitter. Make your mask your own and unique!

And wallah! You have a fun mask to play with! We would love to see your finished creations! Post on social media and tag @valleyplaymuseum for us to see your awesome mask!
